Public Works is a relationship-driven residency that leverages our community and its assets to support artists through the process of developing original work over time.

Unlike many other residencies that ask artists to “arrive, produce, and leave,” Public Works supports a sustained creative process. Participating artists are invited to visit and revisit Princeton as often as rooms are available and the escape is helpful to their project.

At least twice during the residency period, artists must work with the PARC Department to create meaningful community access to their creative process. This access may take many forms—performances, open studios, artist talks, workshops, installations, or other moments that invite the public into how creative work is made.

In exchange for this access, artists in residence will receive lodging at Parlor Hotel, meals (including from Horseradish Kitchen), access to our community of creatives, and other support negotiated through the application process.

Public Works is grounded in the belief that rural communities can play a vital role in supporting contemporary artistic practice. We are excited to surprise and delight people with the art, that moves through and, in part, comes out of Princeton, Wisconsin. We strongly encourage artists of all backgrounds, beliefs, and media to apply. We just ask that you be curious, kind, and interested in working collaboratively with us and our community!
